TYPICAL TECHNICAL CHALLENGES

When Additional Specialist Expertise Makes the Difference

Cementing and well barrier decisions are not always straightforward. Independent specialist support can add value when:

Unexpected or inconclusive cement evaluation results

Even after a well-planned and well-executed cementing operation.

Independent technical evidence is required

For well integrity, remediation or abandonment decisions.

Previous cementing performance needs to be understood

Before planning the next well or operation.

A cementing services tender needs specialist input

To define the required products, technologies and services.

Specialist expertise when you need it, integrated with your existing team and project structure.

CEMENT EVALUATION METHOD

A Diagnostic Approach to Cement Evaluation

A structured workflow connecting data reliability, cement bond conditions and zonal isolation diagnosis.

01 — Data Quality Control

Confirm that the acquired data are reliable and interpretable before conclusions are drawn.

02 — Cement Bond Conditions

Identify the cement bond conditions reflected in the available log data.

03 — Zonal Isolation Diagnosis

Integrate the log response with cementing information to assess zonal isolation.

It’s not about interpreting based on predefined thresholds. It’s about understanding what the complete log response suggests.

ABOUT CEMENTING PERFORMANCE

Experience on Both Sides of the Cement Pump

A Career Across the Complete Cementing Cycle

Cementing Performance is led by Diego Florez, a senior cementing and cement evaluation specialist with more than 25 years of international experience.

His career began in the field with a major global oilfield service company, where he planned and designed cementing operations, ran laboratory tests and mixed and pumped cement at the wellsite. He later progressed into regional technical leadership, supporting engineering and laboratory teams, reviewing critical operations, investigating technical deviations and implementing new technologies across multiple countries.

Today, that combined field, technical and leadership experience supports oil and gas operators globally through independent consulting in cementing engineering, cement evaluation and well integrity.

A practical perspective that connects cement design and execution with what the cement evaluation response means.

Formation annular seal validated for well abandonment
CASE STUDIES

Validating Formation Annular Seals for Well Abandonment

Challenge

Determine whether competent formation seals could be technically demonstrated for well abandonment.

Approach

The operator’s P&A and geology teams worked with Cementing Performance to integrate cement evaluation and casing condition data with cementing history and geological information.

Decision Supported

The operator confirmed formation seals providing annular isolation across uncemented intervals and validated the barriers required for well abandonment. No further remedial work was required.

FAQ

Common Questions

Answers to common questions about cementing engineering, cement evaluation log interpretation, well integrity assessments and cementing and cement evaluation training.

Can you provide an independent interpretation of a cement bond log?

Yes. Cementing Performance provides independent interpretation of new and legacy cement evaluation logs, particularly when results are inconclusive or ambiguous. The interpretation considers what the complete log response suggests, together with cementing data and relevant well background information, rather than relying solely on predefined thresholds.

Which cement evaluation and casing integrity logs do you interpret?

Cementing Performance provides specialist quality control and interpretation across a broad range of cement evaluation and casing integrity logs:

  • Sonic cement evaluation logs: CBL/VDL, radial bond logs and segmented bond logs.
  • Ultrasonic cement evaluation logs: conventional pulse echo and advanced flexural wave ultrasonic imagers.
  • Mechanical casing inspection: high resolution Multifinger Caliper logs for internal geometry and deformation.
  • Electromagnetic casing inspection: electromagnetic thickness logs for corrosion and metal loss assessment.
Do you provide independent cementing engineering consulting for oil and gas operators?

Yes. Cementing Performance works alongside your team, providing flexible cementing support tailored to each project, from early planning, tender definition and design through execution review and post-job evaluation. This service can be combined with cement evaluation log interpretation to connect cement design and execution with the evaluation results.

Can you review our cementing programme or technical scope for a cementing services tender?

Yes. Cementing Performance provides independent reviews of cementing programmes and technical tender scopes. Programme reviews assess alignment with the well objectives, risks and operating conditions, while tender scope reviews help define the required products, technologies, testing and services.

Do you provide cementing simulations and laboratory testing?

Yes. Cementing Performance runs independent simulations of cementing hydraulics and cement sheath stresses and can arrange fluid testing through independent third party cementing laboratories.

Do you work on a project basis or provide ongoing support?

Both. Support is available on demand, on an hourly or project basis, remotely, onsite or through defined technical deliverables.

Can you support projects globally and across different time zones?

Yes. Based in Australia and Colombia, Cementing Performance supports global projects across time zones, with 24-hour coverage. Support can be provided remotely or onsite, depending on the project requirements.

Do you provide training in cementing engineering and cement evaluation log interpretation?

Yes. Cementing Performance provides practical cementing and cement evaluation training through Cementing School®, including customised in-house programmes, technical seminars, workshops and online learning.
